Blue360o Media is pleased to introduce the third Blue360° Media Edition of The Drug and Alcohol Impaired Driver. Available in both print and eBook formats, The Drug and Alcohol Impaired Driver is a police officer’s comprehensive manual for DUI enforcement from initial stop through trial, updated annually to include the latest developments in marijuana legalization and drug and alcohol laws and cases.
See below for an excerpt from chapter two of The Drug and Alcohol Impaired Driver:
This publication helps prepare officers to investigate suspected drug impaired driving by:
- Identifying categories of drugs that have effects that can impair driving performance;
- Naming individual drugs that can have such effects;
- Identifying the specific effects of the drug that can impair driving;
- Quantifying the degree of increased risk of collision in cases where research has demonstrated a higher incidence of crashes.
The number of drugs — both legal and illegal — that can impair driving is enormous. Many of them are cataloged in this publication.
Among other things, the investigating officer should be familiar enough with drugs that can impair driving to question the suspect and to understand whether a particular drug that the driver has taken may have impaired driving performance.
For example, the officer can ask the driver: Are you taking any medications? What is the medication for? What is the name of the medication? When did you last take it? How much of it did you take? Does it make you dizzy or sleepy? The answers might well confirm impairment and reveal its cause.
